In the video, I'll show you 3 ways maps lie to you. You have been lied to your whole life - this video is about the truth and the truth is revealed! I'll show how the Mercator projection helped sailors reach their destinations at the expense of distorting everyone's perception of the planet we live on. The Gall-Peters projection attempted to correct this, but in making our perception of the world more accurate it made every part of the planet inaccurate! I'll then show how the shortest distance between two points is not A to B, when those two points are on a globe. This can lead to bad choices when planning an international trip, which hopefully viewers will now avoid. And finally, I'll show how map makers have left deliberate errors in their maps to allow them to find copyright infringements. You can't go skiing in Haggerston park!
